It can be overwhelming to be a new entrepreneur. After all, you are full of fire and passion for what you do. You know you have a mission and a purpose – and it’s NOT sitting in a cubicle form 9-5, working for someone else on someone else’s terms. This is YOUR life and you know you are here to help and to serve. So you finally leave Rapunzel’s tower and slide down that long silky rope to freedom, only to find yourself grounded.
And not in a good way.
Suddenly, there is so much noise around you. “If you want to be successful, you need to do this!” “If you want to make it online, you need to do that!” And it doesn’t really help that “this” and “that” are two very different, maybe even contradicting things. And that’s when that scary feeling creeps up your neck, makes you shiver and wonder what the hell are you doing here. But anyways, you didn’t take on that epic journey of self-employment only to be discouraged by the first winds of doubt that flow around you, and so you venture deeper down that rabbit hole called “entrepreneurship”.
But the farther you venture, the worse it gets. Suddenly there is not only the unpleasant noise about these “should”s & “do”s around you, but you also realize that you are not the only mermaid in this pond called niche. That this pond is a big freaking ocean. And there are many others swimming in it who seem to be just like you – only a bigger, better, perfect version of you. And to be honest, there is so much stuff to figure out. Maybe even too much stuff. Andy maybe it wasn’t such a good idea to leave that tower. How can you compete with that?
Branding is an essential part of your marketing strategy
Breathe, Damsel. The good news is: You don’t. Why? Because you are unique. Your idea most likely is not – everything on this world has been probably done 1.000 times or even 1.000.000 times before.
But it doesn’t matter.
Because no one is like you, and nobody can do it the way you do it. Even if you are just starting out. The world needs you. But it’s not enough just swimming around in circles (to get back to that mermaid-analogy) and hoping to attract the right people. You need to capture them with your pretty tail & beautiful song. You need a strategy to build long-term success.
There are many parts that will go into such a strategy, but one vital part is your brand: Your vision, your values, your voice and your visuals.
You need to be clear on these elements. Because in this big scary vast ocean, you need to be your own beacon of light. You need to know yourself and what you stand for. But let’s take it even further: If you are not sure about your brand values, about the essence what you are standing for, how should your tribe know? Why should they follow you?
“Just show up” might not be the best advice
I know there is a lot of advice around “just show up”, and partly this is true. Showing up is important. It gives you momentum and keeps you going. It’s a great opportunity to connect with people who desperately need what you offer. But if you are not consistent in showing up, how should people see you, realize you, remember you?
I’ve said it before: the online world is loud and noisy, and it doesn’t help that people’s attention spans are almost non-existent. So when you show up, make sure you do it the right way. Leave an impression. You are here because you have a gift, and after all, you are a professional – so act and look like one. Your business is not just a hobby, so you need to take it serious, and a strong personal brand is one stepping stone in being seen and regarded as the expert you are.
But what if I change myself & my brand along the journey?
Now, I don’t want to tell you that you go in and hire a high-end designer the first thing in your business and plunk down serious cash if you are just starting out. It’s totally natural that your business will evolve on this journey, and your brand naturally will follow. But “I’m just starting out” is NOT an excuse. There are tons of resources, free or budget-friendly, that can help you figure your brand out and show up online the RIGHT way. I offer pre-made branding-suites to make it effortless for you to show up and smash it online – no more headaches about fonts. colors, graphics or what else. Just beautiful & consistent branding.
But don’t take my word for it, hear what others say:
“I purchased one of these packages and I am extremely happy with it. Thanks to the branding guide, I now have consistent colors that go with the stock photos I use. I highly recommend this package for someone looking to get consistent and professional on a budget.”
“I’ve been posting more and more on social media but have felt very aware that I had no consistency with regard to branding, colors etc. and the things that I designed myself at the start of the year really did not ‘match me’ anymore. When I saw Natascha’s packages I feel for them straight away. I have already made use of the color palettes and fonts and it’s been nothing short of amazing. I literally can’t wait to get these uploaded on to my new website template and for the first time ever, I feel like I know who I am and it’s being shown through my branding. Thank you Natascha for your amazing work!”
Doesn’t that sound like a fairytale? It can be your story, too. You can check out all my pre-made branding suites here.
